Hi,

Anybody here play a musical instrument?

I was just thinking about how a lot of my interests require keeping at it to keep it there. I have to be on a bike fairly often for the fitness and skills to stay fresh and it's the same if any amount of time passes without playing guitar.

If I add up my outdoor, indoor, kids and owning a business it seems I should be sleeping more soundly by trying to fit it all in.

Feel free to humor me with what you play, sing or have tried to play or sing. I was born pre-PC so was told to stop singing by my grade school teachers, but did the grade school through high school band thing and have been an amateur guitar player for the 3+ decades since.

I played in bands for about 13 years, semi-pro (lotsa gigs and not-so-lotsa cash) for about 8. Guitar, bass and drums mostly, and did a lot of multi-tracking way back in the day.
My closest to a gig is a monthly jam where players get free beer for jamming on a porch turned stage to the rail trail biker and Harley Davidson biker crowd that shows up. It can be quite entertaining and 2-6 PM on a Martin with med. strings is the guitar equiv of an epic ride.

There are similar jams on different days in the area and that might replace a lot of biking this summer if the rain does not stop.

Yeah, for a long time, music was my other passion. I was a session guitarist for a couple years with a few Jazz & Blues bands, & then tried my hand as a recording engineer. Local bands came to me for "weird sounds". I mixed in underwater mics in half full fishtanks with kick pedals right on the glass, etc.. all that stupid stuff. As much fun as all that was, all those neat sounds were always lost on bands whose crappy music no one was ever going to hear, so I got into film work instead. After a few atrocious horror movies and embarrassingly bad adult films, got out of it. As of this year, I just play and record my own material, for my own ears. Glad I never quit my day job.

In the process of learning...

Trying to learn the guitar. I don't have a lot of spare time, so it's going a lot slower than I'd like. I only know a handful of chords, and can't change from chord to chord fast enough to sound good. Need more time, that's all.

I played bass and guitar at one point in my life. Only paying gig we had was to open for Dashboard Confessional, but had to cancel due to our singer getting his wisdom teeth removed the day before. For about 5 years a friend and I booked smaller shows ( around 500 people or less ) The indie music scene was a big part of my life for a long time and had a lot of good times. Got to meet a lot of great bands too. I only wish I would have worn earplugs more.

How 'bout if the MTB videos were backed by the music? Yes! Then, it'd have a lot to do with
mountain biking.

Can't get much more passionate than that.
That's fine and dandy, but I've yet to see a single person discuss how to embed music in a mt bike vid, post a mt bike vid w/ music, talk about how they sing about cycling, etc.

Again. Doesn't belong in the passion forum.
