I recently bought this MTB at a pawn shop. Obivously, it's been spray painted. There are no badges or labels to indicate the manufacturer. Here are the highlights.
Steel frame - 18 speed
Suntour a3000 RD
Suntour ?? FD
175mm Sugino VP crank with 52-38-28 rings. The 52 is round, but the 38 and 28 are ovoid. The 38 is stamped Suntour cycloid
Shimano cantilevers - Exage trail I believe.
Joytech hubs with ARAYA rims
Shimano thumb shifters - the rear can be switched from friction to index. Someone moved the rear shifter to the left and vice versa.
I don't think this is anything great or special, but it has an interesting mix of parts. It may be something that someone just cobbled together out of the parts bin.
The gusset plate at the bottom of the head tube is stamped with some chevron looking imprints. Anyone have any idea what this is? Is there anything special here?

What's the story on the pedals? One of them is bent up pretty badly. The outer part of the cage is pushed in like it was dragged really badly or fallen upon.

Thanks for the link. I wish mine looked that nice. It looks like all the same componentry as mine. It's curious that both have the shifter for the RD on the left instead of the right. Was this popular back then?eastcoaststeve said:Probably used to look a lot like this:
