Ok here it is, the funnest, most productive trail building days in the history of Norcal.

The dig is described here:
Mtbr invites local readers to get their flow on at Demo Dig Days, March 15-16 | Mountain Bike Review

Sign up is here. You can go on March 15 (Sat) or 16 (Sun) or you can camp inside the forest and do both days.
https://docs.google.com/a/invenda.com/forms/d/1FKdAdKn5o4BjBUHbbvvdz5_-GTjXHMO4UDXtnY3FQqU/viewform

We meet at the top of Hihn’s Mill Road at 29500 Highland Way, Los Gatos, CA 95033 at 9:00am and work until 3:00pm on Saturdays, and until 1:30pm on Sundays. Additional information can be found at the registration link above, or if your questions are not answered there, contact[email protected].

Mtbr is committed to:
- recruit an unprecedented amount of volunteers (60 each day)
- bagels, coffee + sandwiches each day
- write stories about this wonderful project.

You the user need to:
- show up and volunteer
- bring some food and beer to a potluck party on Saturday
- spread the stoke and have a blast

MBoSC and The Stewards of Soquel will have a massive crew of trail leaders to ensure that every ounce of energy is directed to building the trail correctly.

So what say you? You in? This is our greatest opportunity to build and give back so sign up on the spreadsheet above and reply here if you are in.

Potluck!

I'm in for both days, and camping of course. I've got a gas grill out here. Need to find my camp stove. I'm thinking grilled drumsticks, and a heap of steamed veggies. Just picked up a bottle of Brother Thelonius at Beer Thirty in Soquel. I will have a big cooler of ice available.

Ok, we are here as of last night:
15 camping, working Sat and Sun
3 not camping, working San and Sun
16 working Sat only
16 working Sun only

That's about 34 each day. We want about 30 more for each day.

So please sign up now and commit. We need to know how many trail leaders to bring and how much food.

Walk-ins on the day of the dig is not a good idea as we may be completely booked by then. There's only about 5 camping spots left btw.

Remember, you're not just cutting drains this time. You get to work on this grand project... MTBR_Demo_Dig_Days7 (1).jpg

+1

If we know how many people are coming it really helps in the planning process when thinking about what projects will be tackled on a given workday and making sure that enough of the appropriate tools are available & in the correct location.

Sign-up, come dig, get stoked about this cool new trail being built. You'll have a good time out there, for sure.

What to Expect!

So, here's what to expect (sort of):

We want to remove this sign and you will be a big part of that!

You'll show up and sign in

You will be assigned to a section and team leader. Your team leader will share everything you need to know about safety, strategy, and how to kick some ass.

You'll grab a helmet and gear and head to your assigned segment (If you could, please bring a bike helmet in case we run out)

Lucky for you, we have cleared all the muck...used to look like this

Now it looks more like this

Your team will scout your location and strategize...the line will be tagged on what to do

Things you might do:

Clear duff...find the dirt! Turn this:

into this:

You might:

Widen and scrape duff to create diggable dirt (Duff...vegetation filled soil...bad for compacting...creates holes and erosion over time):

Create a berm

Compacting dirt to make it FAST!

Build a bridge!

Maybe even build a jump or two

Or, you might just help us clear some more paths of sticks, leaves, and obstacles.

Saturday will be section 3 which is most of what you see above. Sunday will be section 5 which is RAD but needs to be dialed in and ?maybe? finished!

End of day, you will be stoked!!! And we will get a lot more of this:

I am sure there is more I am missing but hopefully you get the idea. See you all soon!!!

Hey guys- I signed up on the form and in the thread for Sat and don't see my name on the list. I've also recruited another digger. I had originally posted that I have a 4x4 p/u with one seat open, but now there's two of us. I'm filling out a form for him now.

Hey guys--i just saw that you had to sign up by 8AM PST today (Thu)--is it possible to still sign up by EOD today for work only, not camping? I apologize for missing the deadline; I know it makes things more difficult to plan.
