Is there anything good to ride between SLC and the CO border? I figure Moab and Fruita are going to be crazy hot in August so not as much fun to ride as fall or spring. We will be riding light long travel AM bikes so we could ride almost thing except serious DH trails. Mostly looking to break up the 6+ hour drive from SLC to Glenwood Springs before we head south into the mountains.

I've also heard Price has some nice stuff. Another unexplored place is Spanish Fork Caynon (Hwy 6). There's a nice 3hr ride "5th water ridge" out there that takes you past some hot springs.

After you get off I15 and head into Spanish Fork Cyn (Hwy 6) Diamond Fork is about 5 miles on the left.

You could get to CO via Vernal, UT. It's about the same time to do the drive and Vernal could be cool, Park City is pretty nice (see Humdinger thread and please help us get to page 6), the Uintas have some trails as does Midway. All these should be pretty high elevation.

Ya, I looked at utahmountainbiking.com and have a pretty good idea of what to ride around SLC and PC, but it seemed like utah is a desert wasteland from outside of SLC to the CO border. I read about vernal in Bike magazine, it sounded cool, alot like fruita.

For riding, between Vernal and Price, I'd go to Vernal. Not sure which route works better for your otherwise....

Sounds like vernal is the winner. Just looked at the weather, is it usually cooler than SLC? I'm going to be a hot weather baby on this trip coming from Aspen, where a high of 90 is unheard of.

Yeah, it seems Vernal is usually a little cooler in the summer than slc...in the winter a LOT colder Utahmountainbiking.com has good trail beta, the stuff out at McCoy flats is kinda 18 road fruita-ish, up by Red Fleet Jazz Chrome Molly is a lot of fun and a pretty ride to boot, Flume trail in Dry fork is a little higher and shaded...should be a good choice if the others are too hot.
