Mt. Herman all messed up

The Limbaugh canyon trail? If so, the bottom is private property (always has been) and they want trail users to stay out. My understanding is that the land owner and Forest Service are working out a land swap, but it is a ways out before we'll be able to traverse the foot of Mt Herman like we used to. You can still ride the trail, but have to exit a bit higher up and come down on Balanced Rock road.

It's a shame

It's just a shame. I did the canyon early last year. It's great ride but the end mess is just sickening. I choose not to ride it again because I don't want to end higher up and go into Palmer Lake (to much of a hike to get back to the car. Have heard that somewhere near the end you can take a right and go up the mountain, then across, and back down to where you started (involving lots of hike-a-bike up the mountain.

Hey, there is always the Stupid trail and the "Works Trails" at the bottom. The Stupid trail is in awesome shape. The boyscouts where working on it last time I was out. And then the works trails I could spead all day on. Not alot of elevation gain but it has some nice flow to it. Since Mt Herman is only 15 minutes away I find myself there alot.

Yeah, thats the one. I knew it was all private property at the bottom but I never saw anyone there. Now there are frences up all over the place and boulders blocking the trail and new roads all over the place. I haven't heard anything about the land swap, interesting. Where do you exit the trail to get back? Is it before or after the big canyon overlook? Thanks.

For right now the only legal way out of the canyon is to turn north on 715 before the lookout which will take you to the upper and lower res. then you drop into palmer, after that it is all side streets back to Mt. Herman, makes it a boring end to the ride but that is the only option. Be patient, the wheels are in motion but only time will correct this problem, people on this side of town are working hard to make this a wonderful place to ride, also they need volunteers for trail work on the 3rd Tuesday of each month I do believe if your willing.

I've always wondered what was up that trail. I get lost trying to find my way back to the trail head every time I take the roads back. I need to write the directions down one of these time. Thanks for the info.
