dunno about HITG, but I was in Tahoe City last week and I heard that a lot of the Rim Trail was still snowed in. Sounded strange to me-it was 80 degrees there the entire time and I rode all over the place without seeing snow anywhere. I'd imagine that every trail up there is either open already or will be within a week or so.

Hole In The Ground, definitely not yet. Still some time before it will be rideable without being mostly a snow-hike-a-bike experience.

I'll go up and check it out later, maybe about 7-17 or 7-21, and report back. There's a good chance that as of July 21st most of the ride will be decent but that second main climb, the one up the shaded northeast facing slope about halfway through the ride, will still be a long walk on snow. Enough to make the whole ride still a pain in the ass even for the high quality terrain. We'll see.

Too bad about HIG - please do keep us posted!

& about Mr. Toad's, anyone have comments about how much harder it is to go up the road & trail to Armstrong Pass and over, instead of taking the highway?

Thanks!

If your goal is to just bypass the highway, then the eaisiest way is to get on South Upper Truckee ride it all the way up to 89, then simply cross 89 and and up the back way into the Big Meadows Parking area and the beginning of the TRT climb up to Toads. No Traffic. more shade on the climb, best way to ride the loop.

Riding up to Armstong pass is quite a bit more difficult, steep road to get to the single track then a good bit of climbing, but you add a nice desent down to the top of toads. Worth it if you have the legs, and bring plenty of water.

TahoeBC - thanks!

We left early this morning & ended up riding up to Armstrong & then over to Toads. It was gorgeous except for a lot of bugs just below the pass. I'll keep your bypass comments handy for next time!

& about HIG... maybe the hot weather forecast for this weekend will help all that snow melt...
