Where do I ride, and race?

South of You

Austin has some spectacular places to ride. If you're used to rocky.. Try Barton County Green Belt and Reveille Peak Ranch. I just rode both for first time this past weekend. Here are some pics of RPR http://http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=o.112161553134
Everything before the fending off an alligator attack was taken at RPR. We had a blast. The GB is really hard to find your way around, I set up a guided ride with a local check out the Austin Voodoo forum on Bike Mojo for rides to tag along with. Good luck with the move. I've been gone from Texas for 24 yrs and wish I could come back, especially after the riding last weekend. Here is the link for RPR http://http://www.rprtexas.com/
Good Luck
steelworx, I think you're a little too south there ;)

ElaineB > Trails, races, events, shops, etc. can all be found on MountainBikeTx.com. Under Associations you can link to the DORBA and FWMBA sites for more local-specific info (Region 2).

Welcome to Texas!
All of this looks like great info! I really appreciate the help. My family is originally from Moab, and I'm used to that kind of riding. I know it will be different, but I can't wait to hit the dirt in Texas.
The riding is definitely different, but I think you will be surprised at the diversity. Obviously no huge climbs here, but the diversity of trails is surprisingly good. Most of the trails are around 10 mile loops give or take, but almost all are real singletrack i.e. if you make a mistake you hit a tree. DORBA is one of the largest mountain biking clubs in North America and is very active in trail building and racing. FWMBA also maintains several trails in the area, so as far as DFW you'll have plenty of options to keep you entertained. C'mon!
