Asking for a friend in the Dublin (Tri-Valley) area. He is wondering if there are any racing programs or training groups for his 12 YO son. His son might be a little young for organized mountain bike race scene, but figured I would check here for advice.

There are middle school Devo (development) programs springing up around the bay. Ideally there's one in the Dublin area but if not, I know those closer to me (Oakland, El Cerrito, etc) aren't exclusively kids from those neighborhoods. I'm sure they'd be glad to loop your friend in.

Both SRV and MHVS (which are closer to Dublin) have NorCal/NICA teams that accept middle schoolers.

I'm late to the discussion as usual... lol but NorCal/NICA will be doing races for middle school aged kids Spring 2022. Info here: link they should be able to get you connected to the right people.
Also, you should be able to register as an independent if you don't have a local team or can't join one for whatever reason. My son has been racing as an independent rider and has joined a composite team for his final season as a HS Senior.
