More Bartlett Wash

I dove back into the closet looking for more Bartlett. And incredibly the next hard drive I pulled out of the box had what I was looking for...as well as a crap ton of other ride pics from years past

Where I parked I'd go up the sandy trail to a straight up section to access the first area. YMMV as I'd watch others hammer on past my entry point to get up there someplace else

To the newbie-that-I-was at the time, just the shear variation of the rock there was mind-boggling. It still is

Basically in the first section you just got into the mode of choosing which striation to follow, to wherever it led

After playing here for awhile and letting my co-riders get used to what Bartlett is all about you go across some dirt to the next section

There you'd make your decision which way to go, or just let the grooves in the rock tell you where

If you chose to follow a lower line it's a lot of work to get back up to the upper area

The Toilet Bowl is back the other way to the east

I would get into the flow at the top, circling down and around the wall there, dive down, pedal up the far side, circle around then repeat, going faster and farther down the wall as needed

Faster and faster, which is probably half the speed you'll do but remember I'm the timid guy. But after awhile you'd wall ride maybe a bit too far

And get too near the dropoff over there. Easy to get in the zone and forget where you are in relation to that. And, ya know, just like a real toilet bowl, you'd be in a world of S

For years I'd look across the way to another area of potential riding. What's over there I'd ask till finally I did ride it. It was fun but mostly steep off-camber wall riding which led to turning around a lot and dead ends and it took a lot of riding to get to finally you just couldn't continue...then repeating all of that on the way back

Great set of pix from my first time. Ancient history but awesome, thx
Yes there’s some good riding across the way there. We did a loop a friend had routed from Bartlett Wash over to that butte and along the upper flattish off camber ledges then back across to Bartlett proper. Thankfully he’d done all the hiking and looking and dead ends prior so our route flowed fairly continuously.
I think these two photos were from that ride.
Edit: Never mind, I think this ride was out at Tusher.

Yup, that is the Tusher area over there. I hadn't realized that till I checked out Google Earth:

Yet more riding and exploring everywhere you look

Here's some of that flowy rock that blew my mind back in the day

The red arrow is pointing at the area I took my first pic from a few threads ago, west of the whole Bartlett area looking east to Bartlett/Tusher/as taken from somewhere on Bartlett

I tell you, checking out these vintage pics is walking down memory lane. A lot of water under the bridge since then

I rode BW in the early 2000's I think. Without question one of my most memorable Moab experiences. Just so wide open, with nobody else around, and free to ride wherever. I particularly remember sessioning a natural half pipe for a good amount of time.
Great memories out there, thanks for sharing these pics!
