the 888 will probably do anything you ask it to do. the only reason you could be looking at the 03 monster is cause you can buy them cheap.

if you want a burl fork and the very stiff and cheap and not that heavy, look at a 2002 or older monster. those are still DAMN good looking forks.
888 all the way i have ridden both personally i like the 888 alot more
between the 888vf & rc, for a beg/mid level rider (no drops over 10ft for at least another few months) is there a huge difference (besides $$$)?

lets just say yes that will sum it up right there. just do a search trust me i can promise you wil lfind something

RC- external rebound and compression

VF-no adjustments, basicvally a jr.t on steroids, spikes,
ah ha, and what's up with the newer monsters, why have i been told to look for an 03 or before?

Jr. T runs on SSV where as the 888VF runs on VF. Floating valve.

HOWEVER, with the 888 in VF form, you lose adjustments. Only way to tweek your ride is different springs, and adjusting oil if you're into that. SSVF is decent, not top of the line of course.

At the prices today, get a RC. If you're on a budget and simply can't afford a RC, get the VF and maybe tinker with it some. You could also look into a 66RC at 170mm. They run about 500 dollars (As of right now)
Pick up a 888RC and a set of drop crowns.

888 is better suited towards racing, Monster is more suited towards big hucks. That's my take on it. Monster will be way cheaper. Monster is heavy though.
just go for the 888 IMO. you won't be sorry
if you are under 170 pounds get a Super T....not 03 because the tire clearance sucks

really you want an 02 monster.....all the other Monsters are like a pound more
yeah if you go with a monster t get an 02 and older the new ones weight right around 13 lbs where as the 02 monster and older are right at 9 pounds
def. not a buck 70, more like 2 bucks and some change. my roommate has an 02 monster and i had to ride that bike for a few months and liked it but the 888 are sweeeeeeet, but price is an issue, money sucks.
and this is the same person as rickshawriot, my roommate was logged on.
