with the economy on the downturn it seems to have affected the bum population.

Many of them have already been laid off, and have moved on to a less luxurious lifestyle.
They were very very hard to find this year.

However, this did not stop our diligence. With newbies elbigsam at the wheel, and TheyCallMeTim we made plans to "help" the less fortunate.

With Bugger performing documentation, car!os and I packed up the gear.

They included several bums not interested in wine, one who lives at the YMCA (not in the YMCA).

All in all, a lot of good cheer was spread. A case worth to be exact.

Some Secret Santa action.

Someone who knew exactly what Night Train was, could sing the song, and had his own wine glass at the ready...

Mission accomplished, till next year.

I'm sure many people will laugh at this, many people will be appalled. It actually begs some complex questions. I figure it's like cutting to the chase and giving that down on his luck guy exactly what he needs, craves, and wants. Nothing you could have done would have cured the long term situation for these folks. But I guarantee you spread some cheer on that night to some people who are ignored and forgotten.

Homeless folk may be there for a variety of reasons and some/most may have actually been driven there by addictions. Some people might think that it is cruel to give the poison that drove someone down to that person. On the other hand you could argue that these people aren't getting cured anytime soon and have already been dismissed by society. Their lives must be emotionally unbearable and there may even be some physical pain of withdrawal from addiction at times. They deserve a good night full of cheer as much as the next person.

It's tacky to make light of what are likely serious problems in these peoples lives for some cheap internet laughs. I don't think what you did is evil, but it's not funny, either.

Next year, spend your money on blankets and sandwiches instead.

When I was in high-school, my family took a road trip to DC. We had packed some turkey sandwiches in little zip lock bags for the ride down. There was a sandwich leftover, so my father offered it to one of the homeless people that was asking for spare change.

I totally expected the man to eagerly accept the gift and gobble down the culinary delights. We were all totally shocked when the man responded "I don't know where your hand have been, boy!"

So maybe sandwiches aren't the best idea...

Awesome! You made some bums VERY happy once again St. Mojo.

Blankets? It's eff'n 80something degrees here in south texas ant, a blanket to a bum here is like icecream to a bum in Alaska.... or are you say'n that they should have been mean to the bums? Besides, nothing warms you to the core more than your own bottle of Night Train!

The "bums" all have blankets and layers of clothing on. I guess they're not as warm as you are, Fat Bob.

I'll stop posting in this thread now. Glad it was moved from the Passion forum - hopefully it just sinks to the bottom of the GD forum.

for 10 yrs i worked in a rather bad nieborhood and going to fast food joints around there would be several "panhandlers". they would ask for spare change,i never gave them any but in lue of money i told them to follow me up to the window and i'd buy them a burger.

heh not one time would they do it,just across the road was a booze joint....i see them run to it everytime some one would give them money.so in a way i guess you save them from having to panhandle for it.but one way or another they will get thier booze/drugs.
