Well, I finally bought the Specialized Enduro Expert that I've been paying for and drooling after for the last couple months. I wanted a bike that would be good for racing the rougher mountain cross courses and super-d this year as well as to have a good all-mountain bike.

The Rides
The break-in ride for the Enduro was Porcupine Rim on Saturday followed by Sovereign after lunch, then Amasa Back on Sunday. It was mid-70s to low 80s the whole time! Warning - Amasa Back has been plowed. This was the first time I've ridden Amasa Back and the place where I've seen folks dropping off that big ledge is no longer. One of the jeepers up there told us that they needed to be able to get service vehicles up there or something. Some of the freeriders told me that most of the drops and gaps that were there were also filled in. Still, it was a fun ride, but I was really looking forward to see that place.

The Bike
I'm quite happy with the Fox 36 fork once I got it broken in. I wonder if it's still breaking in? I don't know how long it takes. It feels quite plush and super-stiff like a dual crown. I love the Avid Juicy Sevens once I got past the burned-in-but-still-squeaking phase. The first mods I will have to make to the bike is to convert to tubeless (Stan's) and to get a shorter stem. I went through four tubes on the weekend with pinch-flats and a thorn-or-something.

The Pics
I somehow managed to break my month-and-a-half-old new digital camera, so the only pic I have of the new bike is from that-dude-at-the-stupid-little-jump-at-the-end-of-porcupine-rim. I should be getting pics from one of the other guys that went on the rides sometime soon. I will post some if they are cool.

The Props
I have to thank Mojo Wheels in Denver for helping me out this year. They were nice enough to put me on their race team before I have anything on the resume. If you are interested in DH or freeriding, this is the bike shop you need to go to. They have a very knowledgeable staff and carry more DH/FR equipment than any other shop I know of in the Denver area. They are willing to do what they can to compete with the online stores, so go in there and see what they can do for you.

Sweet - I was wondering just yesterday when you would have the new ride, sounds like it's going to work out well for you. That bike looks so much more trailworthy than the Pig Hit. :) I'm also happy to hear that you're pleased with the feel of the 36 - since I'll be riding one too, shortly.

I wasn't too disappointed with Amasa after the grading - obviously it's not as good as it was, but it's not as bad as I expected - I really liked the new step -up @ Super 8.

You missed a good ride yesterday, but it sounds like it was well worth it.

So the step-up you and Wes were hitting was on Amasa? Crap, I didn't notice it. But you know me - unless it's right in front of me, I'll miss it.

You'll love the 36, I'm sure. I didn't take the time to adjust the sag, though, and I think I had too much air, so I'm hoping it will be plusher when I adjust it. I never really had the time to do it because I didn't even get a chance to take off the reflectors until 11pm on Friday night when I arrived in Moab.

Yeah, it's about 3/4 the way up the climb. Super 8 was the really tough (in a Jeep) section that they filled in, there are still about 6 different drops / lines through there, including the step up (the ramp of which is only about 5' tall - it could easily be missed ;) ) If I can get that slacker Wes to quit being such a technophobe, I might actually have pics of it to show you at some point.

Why buy a nice new digital cam, yet refuse to spring for an internet connection in your house? Maybe I could get him to send his memory card over by carrier pigeon.

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you, and I'd feel really bad about that seeing how you haven't put the hit on me for having your new video going on 4 months ;) Hopefully I'll be able to post some porn in the not - to - distant future. :)

The AC will probably be going away pretty soon...

WOW! I can't believe that you are gonna get rid of the ac! Excited to see the replacement! Grant you should come up to Boulder sometime and do some campus urban. There is a ton of stuff to do in Boulder from my apartment. DJ, urban, site seeing... , and some pretty sweet trails are a 20 min drive. Haven't ridden with you since the brakedance days of ESPN zone, and never on dirt. We usually do a lot of campus rides at night when everything is open... Hope to ride with you sometime soon

Is the ultra-secret project the bike that will replace the AC?

Yep, that's the one. I've seen drawrings of it, and it looks like it's gonna be a sweet frame with all sorts of cool features. I've got to sit down and get the rest of my build figured out sometime this week.
