doumtb, threesticks and i ventured this morning out of the staging area cw on pemberton and up tonto tank. the original plan was to take dixie mine to the windmill, but instead we decided to do more climbing and headed west on west fork instead.

at the boundary fence i got a text from jesterspaw who was at the pemberton/dixie mine junction wondering where we were. (he was late and we left w/o him, tsk tsk). energetic rod headed back down west fork to meet him while steve and i went exploring the condition of boundary trail. the rains have left somedeeeeep ruts!!!

we find some very narrow, twisty trail and finally reach what i call “cone rock”. don’t know if this is what the park calls “rock knob”. in any event, the boys rode up the back road to the top while i walked up the steep front face. mandatory group pic

the bike was ok, and other than a bruised ego and bruised limbs, rod was ok and rode all the way back to the staging area. in all it was a great 15-mile ride despite all the climbing and crashes (steve crashed too).

here’s the map of our adventure. till next time!!

Road Rash Rod reporting in.

After cleaning up and consuming mass quantities of ibuprofen and
a few Sam Adams:D :D I headed out for my night ride with Grendel
at T-100 good news no biffs on that ride. Sure was hard trying to make
the right hand turns on 1A damn am I sore now.

I was so bummed that my gopro flash card was full and not recording when
I crashed :madmax: I really wanted footage of that.

Thank you Kaboose,Threesticks and Jesterspaw it was an awesome ride.

Thanks Dave for the good vibes nothing broke just bruised and bloody.
I remember being able to bounce better when I was younger.:D

I am home now and going to consume more beer and ibuprofen.

here's the vid of RRR and jesterspaw going down from the cone rock. i'm standing half way down the incline but the camera doesn't do the steepness of the hill any justice; it almost looks flat. it was so steep though, that i almost landed on my kaboose a couple of times as i walked down!

then threesticks comes down the back side.

good times, you guys!

Good looking owie Rod! Sorry I missed that ride. I've never done the boundary trail, looks fun.

Yesterday was a good day in north central Phoenix though. See below, 5400 block of N. Central Avenue, about 12:30 PM. As they say, "Hookem!"

Kaboose, just so you know. Once you cross the fence line you have left MMP and are on the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy (Preserve) property. The horses are not supposed to be there, and the owner has promised many times over to remove them, but he always has a reason he can't take them someplace else. His grandmother has died at least 17 times now in the past three years.

Anyway, the Cone Rock is part of Rock Knob and it's all public access and usage, but you have left MMP, just so you know.

Enjoy!

yes, i/we kind'a knew that.

ah, don't remove the horsies! they're fun to come upon to. this time we only saw 3; in times past i've seen 8 or 9 together grazing away not bothering anybody. sure, they poop on the trails occasionally, but not much different than the people who ride their horses there and do poop on the trails.
