Sorry if some of this has been covered, the search function keeps timing out and making me mad.

So I have a 5-pack that I am in the process of building and I am in a little conundrum with the fork. I currently have an '04 Z1 (130mm) and it sits at ~ 69* and a 13.6" bb which feels VERY steep considering that my other Turners ( the pack is replacing one of these) have 65-66* head angles. I was thinking the new Z1 might work as I will never want any shorter than 130mm but I am not sure that 150 will always be enough. On the other hand, the 66 offers more than enough travel but does not 'officially' get quite as short as I would like. Idealy I would like 130mm - 160mm fork with a FUCTIONAL way to shorten the travel, but that looks a long way off, so...Anyone run their 66 shorter than 150mm? How does it ride at reduced travel? Do your guys make changes to the positive pressure when changing travel or just the negative?

What are others running on 5-packs? EO? Will the crown clear a med pack down tube or will I need a ventana crown?

Any input appreciated.

...the 66SL works great @ 130mm, no problems at all. I actually think it is more controlled feeling than my 06 Z1 Light. I typically just adjust travel with the negative pressure & leave the pos. alone. You will need a Ventana King race for a Medium pack.

I had an '05 Z1 (150mm) on the 5 Pack until this week when I changed it out with the 66SL from my VPF.

The Z1, I think, is a great match for that bike. The ETA helped on the climbs and the fork is just a solid performer.

The 66SL is more burly and can be dialed down to the same height as the Z1 and beyond via the negative air, so I guess its more flexible in that regard. And its only a 1/4 lb. or so heavier than the Z1, so weight is really a non issue.....for me anyway.

I can't see running the 66SL at anything above 150mm on the 5 Pack though. I think it would be a bit too much rake for that bike. But I suppose I'll try it for the sake of science. ;)

No fit problems, but mine is an XL, so I can't tell you about a medium.

Based on your criteria, I'd say the 66SL is a good fit.
PM jncarpenter. I believe he has one on his 5 Pack as well.

Or run the FSA DH Pro "The Pig" headset. It has a taller lower stack height than other headsets.

The 66SL is a great fork. I have never really tried to get mine lower than 150mm, but there are many that say it can be done. The RS Lyrik may also be a possiblity for you. But it doesn't come out until later this year and is pretty pricey.

The new FOX 36 talas is 100-130-160 and will do everything your looking for. Marzocchi tends to have longet axle to crown then the other guys do. I put a 66 on a 6 pack and it was way to slack.

The Z1 150mm (538mm A-C) on the Pack gives you a 68 degree HA. The 66 at 170mm has a 555mm A-C. That extra 17mm won't even knock a degree off the HA. For a lot of us 67 degrees is hardly 'way to slack'...

For me 68 is fairly steep for the type of riding I do with the Pack and it limits me a bit.
