Looking for some alternatives to the obvious April destinations in the US SW. We'll be traveling from BC. Too early for Bend? Norcal maybe?

Way too early for Bend. Depending on what you mean by "Norcal", you may be okay. Tahoe, Mammoth and Downieville will be no-go's but Santa Cruz should be okay.

Do you like MTB festivals? If so, Fruita is having their the last weekend in April. I've been to festivals all over and their is the best run in my opinion. Even with 400+ riders in town, there are sooooo many trails that nothing ever seems crowded, especially Lunch Loops in Grand Junction or Palisade. Pretty much every bike manufacturer is there with top of the line demos, they have concerts with free beer, free swag. I'll be there. Look for me. I'll be the guy with the black jersey.

Tucson and Phoenix would all work like smmokan said. They are more XC oriented for the most part but have their share of techy sketch as well. South Mountain in PHX probably heads that list. We'll be heading out there in two weeks.

Lastly, post up on the more specific state boards and you'll get 10X the responses and I guarantee you'll get asked "what kind of riding do you want to do"?

EDIT: I had to re-post after realizing I mis-read your post title. :madman:

Gotta agree with you on FFTF, it's a blast. Still wearing my COPMOBA hat that I scored at the event 5 years ago

Tuscon - Mt. Lemmon or
Las Vegas/Boulder City - Bootleg Canyon

I understand South Mountain is pretty great, but I haven't been.

So much riding in Arizona....all different styles and locations. I love riding there....from pine forests in flag and Prescott to red dirt and stone slabs in Sedona to desert riding in the sun valley. All kinds of choices all through the state.
