Another one from irresponsible drivers.....

Our Female Track Silver Medal at Athens 2004, Belem Guerrero was slightly brushed by a dumper truck while she was training on-road yesterday. The consequent fall caused her a broken collar-bone.

While she was operated on her collar-bone today, reducing the fracture with a Titanium plate, and she's ok; she's pretty much out from the Track World Championships next April at France.

Her history is the one of a real cinderella, coming from a very humble family from one of the poor neighbourhoods of Mexico City. Earning everything she has as many of our sport figures by hard work and basically without no support from the government or sporting authorities in Mexico.

My heart goes to her... I'm so angry that I'm almost into tears... why? Is that hard to drive a freaking vehicle safely?

Sorry, I just wanted to share it with you.

this is pretty sad...i've been to mexico city three times now...on all occasions it was rare to see anybody running on roads there...this is probably because of the enormous traffic situation...she loves here city, but running on any of the roads there is not bright....one put themselves at the mercy of the general public...people behind a wheel think a lot differently.

my sincerest condolences to Belem, here family and love ones....she'll be good to go in a couple months

Just to clarify... it was outside the city. Close to Toluca while riding on road.

But yes, this city's traffic is something you don't want to be riding in.

Actually, it's pretty much safer to MTB here than doing road stuff... I've heard of robbery and express-kidnapping to roadies. Riding in group is not a guarantee unless you ride in a large group (more than 10?). Really sad.

On the MTB the only perils you're exposed to, are the ones you want to get into.

Well, it has nothing to do with bikers directly. As long as cars are hitting other cars, they're going to be hitting cyclists as well. It's unfortunate, but you're not going to be able to eliminate just one kind of accident.

That's why I wondered if it was so diffcifult to guide a vehicle... I know it's not only to bikers, which reinforces my argument.

Is that freaking difficult to drive a vehicle?? I mean, if you can't do it safely, just don't drive.

Sorry... but I still think there is a good number of idiots behind a wheel.
