It reminds me of an 80's Specialized. My 1986 Rockhopper's frame is similar to that but the fork on mine isn't as nice.

Not really. Several big companies did that in the early 80's Specialized was one of them.

I was wondering if Metro Bicycles (the shop) ever rebranded framesets in the early days.

I would say its a step up from that dept store stuff wouldnt you? Its no Huffy. It was probably a $300ish bike back then based on the frame details...

Reminds me of the mid-80's Nashbar "mtb's". IIRC they had that type of BB cable routing, also that kind of dropout, but I believe they were lugged, not tigged.
