Out for my usual afternoon constitutional, and I notice some guy with incredible sideburns riding a bright orange 'cross bike going the other way. I think nothing of it until I realize that he is also wearing a bright orange helmet, and the downtube on the frame says "Turner".
Holy crap. That is Geoff Kabush. I quickly pull a turn-around and catch up to him.
I didn't want to bother him while he was riding, so I basically just told him that I just ordered my new Turner Nitrous for the 2006 racing season. I also told him that I thought his 'cross bike was awesome. Lastly, I congratulated him on a good racing season and wished him luck for this upcoming year. Total conversation was less than 5 minutes until I turned around again and let him go on his way.
Very cool guy, incredibly humble, unlike some of the other pro riders I have met here on the island.
He kept looking at my bike for a little while, like he was interested in it, but he didn't say anything. My road bike is a Cervelo Soloist, which isn't all too common, especially with no local dealers out here. He didn't ask me anything about it though.
If DT reads this thread, I would like him to know that I think he should start producing those 'cross frames. Maybe if it is even in limited quantites/sizes, I know I would be right up there in line to buy one. You guys have to see that thing in person, it is absolutely beautiful. The orange is awesome, and the frame just looks sweet overall. I especially like the disc mounts. Geoff seemed pretty stoked about it too, he told me he loves it and he is looking forward to really putting it to the test racing next year.
Oh well, just thought you guys might be interested.
