Merino jerseys

I am looking to add a short sleeve, full zip merino jersey to my rotation before my old ibex wears out. I have worn through a thin castelli in the past and have a weird retro one that may have a poly blend but only a short zip. Anyway, all i can find is 7mesh which may be the ticket but advertise a very slim fit and roadie bias. I don’t care what the jersey is marketed towards as long as it is an all around high quality cycling jersey. Suggestions please?

Check Surly bikes.

I’ve had a few of their long sleeve merino zip jerseys and love them. Pretty sure they make a short sleeve version.

Hi, I'm from 7mesh. I think you're referring to our Ashlu jersey. FWIW it's definitely a jersey fit, not a shirt, but the fabric isn't super compressive (light, and 0% Lycra) so we consider it an "eased" jersey fit. We recommend keeping it fitting relatively close to stabilize the pocket contents, but it definitely feels looser than road jerseys with higher Lycra content. We use it for mountain, gravel, and road, but 'fast' roadies usually choose one of our other options. Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying, that sounds like what I am looking for.

Just a little feedback/info after finally getting my hands on an ashlu merino short sleeve: i ordered a size large, i am 188cm/ 90kg. The fit almost worked but was too tight for my comfort in the torso. I felt like it would be uncomfortable/ restrictive in high cardio situations. If it stretches a little it would be perfect but i don’t want to count on stretch for such an expensive piece of kit. That said, it is the nicest quality jersey i have ever tried on. I will be exchanging for a size xl and hope/expect it will fit comfortably.

Thanks for giving us a shot, and I appreciate the feedback. I hope the XL works for you!

I will report back when i get the xl. I don’t know my chest size which might be helpful for others so i will add that by the time i have an update.
Well i still dont have chest size but XL is perfect: 7mesh ashlu short sleeve full zip. It is awesome.
@Monty219 Been looking around for MTB specific reviews of the Ashlu and stumbled upon this thread. Seems like it's marketed more towards gravel and wasn't sure how stable the back cargo pockets would be on single track. How has it held up for you so far this season?
If you can find them, Woolistic jerseys are AWESOME. Check out Vintage Velos for details.

Two of my oldest wool SS jerseys (14-15 yrs old) are one from Rapha (pre-buyout to Walmart) and one that's branded "FOX RACING".

I don't use the back pockets, but they seem very solid, along with the standard top access pockets there is a side access zipper pocket back there too. They use some fabric other than wool for more structural stability. Since I never used the pockets I can't say for sure but would guess that they are more stable than most rear jersey pockets out there. 7Mesh offered 1 free return/ exchange when sizing didn't work out for me at first. Backcountry also typically offers free returns if you want to check one out risk free.
