No real surprise: I hate drug cheats!

I am not too sure about this as it is from a non english site but all the info is on general:

http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?p=302848#post302848

I copy-pasted the article to an Alta Vista translation engine... i guess this is the best we can do. Here it is unedited in fear that I might screw it up if i do try to edit. It couldn't translate everything so you'd have to fill-in the blanks:

After Christophe burns and Dave Bruylandts now also Filip Meirhaeghe have been caught on doping. The mountainbiker (33) stop immediately with rates. He today will provide text and explanation on a press conference.

Meirhaeghe will have delivered positive plasje during a control in Canada. Yesterday he, but today call the mountainbiker refused still give comment a press conference. Meirhaeghe are the third positive doping case within Belgian cycling racing in hardly three weeks time. Lotto-rennerlotto-renner lotto-renner Christophe burns from the tour was firstly put after tracks of methadone in its urine were found. And last week still appeared that Dave Bruylandts at a control beginning tested April positively on EPO.

The positive control of Meirhaeghe is not only bad news for Belgian cycling racing, but also for the Belgian Olympic committee. Meirhaeghe were considered as one of our large candidates on an Olympic medal in Athens within two weeks. In Sydney four years suffered the oost-Vlaming caught still zilver.

Reports

association President the Backer reacted reports:
Bruylandts the way and Meirhaeghe in the field: that is two medal chances we see which passing in Athens to our nose. But on the other side: he who its breach burns, but must on the blisters zitten.''

Mountainbikecoach Rudy (de) Bie could hardly believe it: , Filip are the man who has made the mountainbiken large in Belgium. This is possible in the long run disastrous consequences has on sport.''
Cheers

In english on cycling news. I really hate drug cheats and I am delighted he was caught. They better take those World cup points away as well as his previous titles and give them to the real world champ (2nd place)

Yep, I am sad that he chose to do it, but glad that he got caught.
Although...

I hate drug cheats, it's easy to see why, they do it... They are lacking something, weather they be in a slump or whatever- it's an easy way out for them. Unless they get caught! NO EXCUSE THOUGH!

Yes he has taken drugs- Doesn't mean they should take his previous titles away, unless they can confirm that he was using the ban substance then, or he confesses to it. (sorry didn't the English read artical).

Either way it's still bad for cycling, it even further dirties it's reputation... Very Sad Indeed.

Agree with that. Though there is that cloud of doubt now over past titles...
It's a dad day for MTB racing...

BUT drug use in sports is very wide spread in cycling as well as almost any other Professional and Olympic style sports. People who deny it are just in denial with themselves.
Don't be suprised if YOUR hero is busted sometime soon. Any sport, country or nationality.

I am sure Meirhaeghe will loose in WC Stripes and should if found to be using them at that time.

It sad but I have seen it in many sports at all levels and have faced the issues myself. It's very hard to to go that route to succeed, but many do and I applaude them for doing what is right!!

Who's next??

I can tell you for a basically for a fact Bary Bonds has taken HGH. BUT MLB and fans nneed to realize this is not illegeal in MLB so did he do anything wrong? Does he do other drugs like THG? Who knows but HGH use is EAASY to prove. Proof has sort of been mad public and he admits to the evidence, sort of ;) .

Again, another BLACK EYE for cycling. First Milar and now Meirhaeghe...

I have no doubt that there are many more cyclist taking drugs that one day will be outed, as there is sprinters, rowers, weight lifters (Is it legal for this sport?) and what not, I certainly am not surprised and I still wouldn't be surprised if certain roadies were drug taking. Being the best means making sacrifices and it seems these sacrifices can be moral ones too.

Sadly in Australia a number of our track cyclists have been outed for taking drugs. As an Australian and as a cyclists, it does not surprise me, its the name of the game for a lot of people.

Shame - But we all make mistakes in life.
Not my Hero...

MY hero passed away almost two years ago- Although he did take loads of drugs :p They were needed for him to live day to day life.

Anyways more to the point: DB is right... THere are probably thousands of athletes that are taking drugs that we dont know about, and/or aren't ilegal in their particular sport. Some may even require drugs/medication for medical reasons. Ala Alistar Lynch(sp)/AFL for the Aussies.

Drugs are undoubtedly a big part of sport, especially cycling as we have heard alot of recently here in Australia, with the whole track cycling drug stories. All we can hope is the cheats in our sport get what they deserve.
he had to...he rode a heavy EPIC

sorry for the joke - i couldn't resist!

really sad to hear about that but pro-cycling is really sick!
bad day for mtb racing? i dont think so

mtb is much bigger than filip. its a bad day for me, filip was one of my favorites riders but in the end, im happy that theres one less cheater racing in our sport. its a smart idea to admit guilty and just say, hey forgive me, i will quit racing right now... give me a brake, take off that world champion jersey from him right now and all his world cup wins this year, thats the minimum that should be done to this big cheater.
DB is definetly right.... And we are all partly to blame... Society puts tremendous pressure on our athletes to win. If you get silver, you are the first looser is now the common way of thinking... And that needs to change! Not to mention MTB racers get lowsy paychecks unless they are top 10 or so... And lastly, you are talking of people who have dedicated their lives to the sport... made every sacrifice possible to make it to the top... When they see that they still can't make it to the top of the sport despite all their efforts (either because of limited natural talent or because others are also doping), the last resort is to take a tiny blue pill!!! Their whole life goal is just a tiny pill away... Not surprising they do it!!!!

I honnestly think that the day and olympic gold medal or world championship title isn't worth millions of $$$ anymore, athletes will think twice about taking drugs and ruining their health...

no, really, this guy was under pressure. I mean, he was carrying extra weight that translated in an extra EPO need in order to move it fast .And not only that, he had to do well...at least, a podium.

But do you think he was taking it by himself ? I always thought trainers were the guys telling what they must or must not take.

You're probably new here so we should tell you that 'save some weight' is like our own little community. There are a lot of people who post exclusively here, like Nino and few other euros, as well as a whole lot of others (like me) who just occasionally post on other forums. Other forums are mostly frequented by Americans whereas this one is sort of more 'International'. So since this is our own little place, in practice, conversations are not limited to matters of weight at all.

Yeah...He needed a light one, like mine... :D
It is almost obvious . . .

. . . considering how dominant he has been despite racing those worthless Specialized tires. Makes me wonder about Gunn-Rita Dahle. I will never lose interest in Golf because it is one of the most pure sports. There does not seem to be any substance which enhances play, although there is certainly technology which can give an advantage. In MTB technology is fairly equal, so it is the riders that must find the advantage.
Don't be suprised to see drugs come into Golf...

Just general anobolics can help a golfer hit the ball farther just through sheer power.
With all the money to be had, don't be suprised if some is or will be 'Juicing" soon.
Sounds like golf is just starting to test, mostly due to becoming an Olympic sport:

1 less person for Liam Killeen to worry about at Athens.

:)

disappointing all the same though.
