I am looking for a hub that's not high engagement(budget) but I don't want a low engagement hub either. This will be for my trail lite bike and 48 points sounds like a good balance between 36 point a higher engagement hub. Does what I am looking for exist? Is it even any good or worth it? If not worth it what would you suggest to get a hub that has more than 36 points and won't hurt my wallet. Thanks and keep it tasty!

What is your price point, and what does "budget" mean to you?

Here are some common options:

Hope hubs have 44 point engagement.
DT Swiss has a 54 points of engagement option.
Industry Nine's 1/1 hubs use 90 points of engagement.

Is that their road hub cause that's what their site is showing me. Or does that not really matter road vs mtb for hubs as long as poe and degrees are good? Is 8 degree of engagement good or bad?

DT Swiss has a 54 points of engagement option.
which one the 370, 340 or the 240?

You’re going to have to look for used at that price if you want high engagement… even that is going to be challenging. $200 is about what you will pay for a reliable, medium engagement hub. Fast engagement is up around $500.
I don't mind going used. Nothing from Sram or Shimano in this price range? What about if I increase my budget to $150 or less?

The DT Swiss star ratchet upgrade works on the 180, 240, and 350 hubs. The upgrade is also over $100 (currently on sale at Worldwide Cyclery for $107.40), so that is still going to bust your budget.
I did a search and it looks like that upgrade also works with the 370 hub according to James the bike guy on youtube. He has a video about it. That also takes me over my budget. :-/

Look at Bitex hubs. Prowheelbuilder has them. I have seen other online wheel builders use them as the base for a solid value priced wheel. They are said to be of great quality of great quality for the price and are well designed.

My budget for the rear is ~$90 or less, Im okay with going generic for the front.
At that price point have you considered chinese hubs ? I spend last season on some ARC hubs with 104poe that show no signs of slowing down. Bearings don't last long but you can replace them with SKF ones and be sorted. At this price point it seems like the best options.

Which hubs would you suggest I look at?

How are Stan's neo hubs?

Just a note on Neo's... They are also a Chinese sourced hub and are "fairly" durable (i.e. Brand pricing). They're light enough for sure and easy to work on, but... the freehub bodies are soft and prone to deformation around the pawls under hard use. This not only leads to binding, but also to cracks in the aluminum. I've been on a pair of Flow's over a couple of years, but I also have had to replace the FH body each year too. I don't need super light, so I won't be looking at them for my next wheelset.

Shimano, yes. Under $150 will get you an XT hub, which is very reliable. I think they may have bumped the engagement also? They used to be really low POE but I think they got updated.

Yes but cone/ball bearings which is a pain to maintain and if you don't the track marks and the hub is good for the bin.

ARC hubs were 70€ a pair last winter so it might work with your budget, even with the inflation if you only take the back hub. They only have one model in boost.
Where did you order it from?

Can't seem to find the specs on them. It's not sac relig to run sram stuff on a shimano hub, is it?
my Bitex hub uses DT internal with 54 POE. It's under $100.
Which model?
