I didn't read this story either. I assumed it same story I saw on Pinkbike last week that was was about a poor Grizzly bear that chewed on a rider who fought it off in heroic fashion with a folding knife in AK and was hunted down and killed.I reckon most people underestimate how powerful wild animals are. The link isn't working for me, so I can't read the story. I just wanted to try and say something that sounded clever.
A good sheath with a snap closure should prevent that. I think it would take a pretty serious/fluke incident to free the knife. If you are violently rag-dolling down a cliff, however, you have other concerns....I'd be concerned that a fixed blade might get stabby if I crash.
But the bear has ten of them! And his are ready to go.I have used the same fixed blade knife on my belt for about 18 years.
