I have a 2019 Specialized Rockhopper. Stock rims “Stout 25 29, alloy, disc only, double-wall,
25mm internal width, 32/32h”
Does anyone know if I can install tube ready Maxxis Assegai 29 2.5wt tire on my front rim? Also same rear rim a Maxxis Minion DHF II? I just want to make sure I can before making this
purchase. I want better traction on the trails.

You can do the deed however, there is diminishing returns on traction since working air pressure to eliminate squirm is going to take away from performance.
Do the deed meanwhile, sort out a wider rim for the future upgrade to be complete. i30-i35 will get you the optimal traction and performance. In the interim, ride it, play with it and most of all, have some fun with it.6

Might require leaning the bike over a bit more and run higher pressure than wider rims but it's not like your bike will explode. personally I'd run faster rolling 2.3ish tires on that bike but if you want all out traction then the Assguy is a good tire.

ran wide trails on "normal width" rims. Didn't feel a difference. Also ran different fork offsets too. Didn't feel a difference.

The tire to rim ratio thing is so blown out of proportion it's unbelievable. There are guys out there with a 2.4 on a 40mm rim where the side knobs are basically pointing straight up with the center lugs. Someone told them they have to put that tire on a wide rim, which they did. Great traction on a straight gravity DH coast. Not so great 99% of the other time.

2.5 is fine on a 25mm internal rim. The only time a wide tire is bad on a relatively skinny rim is when the ratio gets close to 3.0 or more. Example: I had two different 2.8's on a 20mm internal rim --- the seller and manufacturer (the dreaded SRAM) said it was 25mm internal but that was external rim width. Already had the tires, so... Both times there was some issue when I hit something hard, first time it broke the tire bead, 2nd time on a different tire it simply flatted when smushed on a bad switchback; I'm still riding it with a tube inside now. Just living with it until the tire wears out and I sell the used wheel on E-Bay. It's not as bad as it sounds, the tube helps the tire stay on and helps firm it up in this situation. But that wheel's days are numbered. Otherwise, if the tire casing width to internal rim ratio is 2.0 to 2.5, and you are not taking corners at 20 mph, it will be fine, don't worry.

Obviously the marketing isnt working properly with you.

Please sit through a minimum of five 15-minute manufacturers ads teaching us the benefits.

We will cure you.
