Maxxis Rekon 2.4 WT on Nobl TR32 27mm rim?

Howdy - I'm gathering parts for a new build earlier next year, effectively my first new mountain bike in about 20 years. Just got a Maxxis Rekon 3C EXO TR Tire 29 x 2.40 and realized that it's a "WT" tire. The wheels I'm getting are Nobl TR32, which have a 27mm IW front rim and 26mm IW rear rim.

Would you run this tire on either of these rims, or is it really best used on a ~30-35mm IW rim?

Thanks!

I've been running Nobl TR 32's for the last year on my XC bike. I started out with 2.4 Rekons on the front and 2.25 Rekon Race on the rear with no issues. I've since changed to 2.35 Ikons up front and 2.2 Ikons out back. Maxxis recommends a 25 - 30mm IW rim for the 2.4 Rekon with 30mm being optimal. My suggestion would be that if your riding is more XC-oriented you'll be fine with the TR32's. If you're riding is geared toward more rugged terrain, you'll probably be better off with a wider rim.

I wouldn’t hesitate to run it on that size rim.

Hey, how do you like your Nobl wheels? Mine are meant for a ti hard tail that will mostly be ridden on steep but non-technical fire roads and double track.
I’ve put many miles on my Tallboy with TR32’s and 2.4 Rekons. It’s a fantastic setup, no issues with the width making the profile weird. I’m used to running Assegais or DHF’s on wider wheels and I really liked the Rekon for this use/setup.

I've had no issues with them or the I9 Hydra hubs. They've been great. They're on a carbon hardtail that is ridden mainly on non-technical BLM access roads in the New Mexican desert that ranges the gamut from smooth dirt to teeth-chattering to gravel to larger rock. For the type of riding that you describe, the TR32's will be fine with the 2.4 Rekons.

If you're looking for a wheel builder, I'd highly recommend Custom Wheel Builder in Colorado Springs. They were great to deal with and were a couple-hundred dollars cheaper than going directly with Nobl.

2.4’s are perfect on 27mm ID wheels, it’s what I run. I tried 2.4’s on a 35mm ID wheel and the tire profile was horrible, 30mm is ok.

Thanks everyone! Hey, while I have all you TR32 owners here, if you don’t might sharing, what spokes did you use in your wheel builds and what is your riding weight?

I'm running Sapim Race spokes. I weigh 154 lbs. My bike weighs 22.5 lbs.

I'm on the sapim race spokes and aluminium nipples. Rider weight 180lbs on Ibis Ripley. Happy with the wheelset so far after 1 full season on them. I'm running 2.4 Kenda Hellcat on front and Schwable 2.35 HD on Rear.
