I'm flexing my powers of being an educated consumer/shop employee. As some of you know a lot of the Maxxis LUST style tires were having delaminating issues, blisters forming between the different layers of casings. I've actually had this happen to two of my own tires, didn't think much of it, popped the blisters and went on my way. After I saw a handful of my own good customers tires with huge blisters it was finally time to get on the horn with Maxxis.
After jumping through a few hoops I finally got to the person who was trying to help me. I feel a little bad for her because it was obvious that Maxxis has a POOR warranty policy in effect and I was told that it could take up to 1.5 months for the issue to be resolved. I was then told that I would be better off contacting the distributor (in this case we use the Hawley Company) for our warranty which makes complete sense since Hawley obviously has so much to do with the way the tires are manufactured. <--- please note my sarcasm here. So, reluctantly I got on the phone with Hawley and they were much more eager to help me. Unfortunately I still have to ship out the old tires in question and now we, the shop are out tires because we've chosen to take tires out of stock for our customers. (Maxxis, this is an example of the RIGHT thing to do, take notes).
So... sadly the Maxxis tires that are currently mounted on my bicycle will be the last Maxxis product that I'll ever buy. A shame because I've really come to love their tread pattern. With UST prices pushing the $70 mark consumers have every right to expect a longer life span from a supposedly more durable product. Also as the service manager in my shop I'll be doing everything I can to keep Continental and Kenda products in the spot light. We may even go so far as to stop stocking Maxxis products all together.
Shame they couldn't walk down the hallway, put a few new tires in a box and ship them to us.
Just thought you should know.
