Maxxis Ignitors That Throw Stones

I have regularly read the the Ignitor throws up significant amounts of debris. An owner said maybe when they are new. Are any of you who have had this experience riding on East Coast singletrack? Please state where you all are located and whether it is hard pack with some surface debris or soft terrain filled with loose dirt and stones.I was wondering if perhaps there is just more to get thrown by the tire out west, judging from my rides is N.M. and AZ. Thank you!

Not an issue as long as you do not live in a glass house! ;)

I have not noticed any more or less "pick up" than any other tire. Western Oregon trails, forest roads, wet and dry, soft, loose, clean and gravely hardpack.

Probably related to the local conditions, type and size of rock.
Thanks, Shiggy. I knew that 'glass house' was going to crash down on me. Very good!
Been using them here in East Tennessee for about a year now. Our terrain varies from dusty clay to goop to rocks to gravel, (sometimes all on the same section of trail) And I do not see any more stones or dirt thrown up than any other tire I've owned.

As I suspected. Thanks.
The only tire I've noticed throwing substantially more debris is the Weirwolf.

My guess is that the tight groups of small, flexible center knobs are very good at catching small gravel and twigs.
quit

I quit using mine for that very reason, throwing up sand right into my nose and eyes. they're good tires, I just couldn't get past the debris storm.

Agree

Add the Nano and Exi Wolf to that list.

I haven't used an Ignitor as a front tire........yet! I have a new one that is going to get mated with a Nano rear very soon!
Stoned !

I recently tested the Ignitors and did find that they fling up a lot of stones and debris as you ride.

In contrast, the Nano's and Exi's didn't pick up stones at all.

All tires tend to fling a little dirt up, but for me, the Ignitors were easily the worst at picking up stones and crud.

Of course, ymmv ... but that is what I found whilst testing them.

I just put one on the front of my Cobia as my stock aramid bead XR had a slight "thwackthwackthwack" sound that was a little annoying and noticeable when riding on pavement. The Ignitor is a great tire as far as I'm concerned for my local conditions but they do tend to pick up and throw small stones. I hear them pinging off my downtube very frequently now, whereas before I did not. The 2.1" Ignitor seems to roll noticably better than the 2.25" front Gum-Bi XR did and if I gave anything up in traction I haven't noticed yet.

I ride in SE Michigan on mostly hard packed trail in glacial moraine conditions (mainly at Pontiac Lake Rec. Area outside Detroit) and there's stones of all sizes including many of the small ones the Ignitors love to pick up.

That's because you ride upside-down and backwards! Your drains spin the wrong way, too.
I have Ignitors on the front and they don't throw rocks or debris any more than other tires I've had. On the first ride or two, they are a bit sticky and throw sand....but that's about it.

I'm riding in SoCA for what it's worth...

Only on gravel/fire roads

Not a problem on the trails as much as on gravel roads, fire roads, etc. The problem has diminished as the tires have worn. I notice it more on the rear than the front.
I have noticed that my Ignitors do not throw stones while either on the rack in the garage or on asphalt. When on stones, I have noticed they throw stones. Come to think of it, the same can be said of my other tires on my other bikes.

Is that why I always feel dizzy?

Damn ! ! ..... And here I was thinking it was the bike all this time...:eekster:

No wonder my steering has always been a bit 'strange' ... meh !

Drains? Drains?

...Ahhhh...toilet drains.. :)

We don't have toilet drains here in Oz, we just dig a hole in the ground and squat.

The Government tell us that we *may* have some of those new-fangled "toilets" soon, as well as electricity and fresh water from a tap. I don't really believe it though...just election promises, I reckon... :madmax:

Mine throw not a stone, at least not any more than any of the other tires I own do (Exi, Nano, Moto, Mythos, Fast Track, Klaw, etc.).

This is at various pressures on various services from hardpack to sand to gravel to mud to clay to tarmac to peanut butter.
Not noticable to me in AZ. I love them.
I ride Ignitors front and back in NM and have no issues of the sort. They hook up very well on the DG, gravel, dirt, and tuff terrain.
Hoo?
