I've been researching wheelsets for a while and I think I've narrowed it down to these two. What do you folks think? The retail for the ST's is $749 and $699 for the Amer.Classics. The decision seemed easier when the A.C.'s were $599, but they went up in price. The Mavic's are 1645 gr. and AC's are 1520 gr. My LBS will give a deal on either one and that's who I want to buy from. I know I could save a little on the internet but they give me great service, fix spokes and true for free usually.
I'm riding a 2006 Stumpy FSR and the wheels are 2010 grams now. I'm 205 or so w/equip. so I can't go super light weight.

Any input would be appreciated.

Ac's are good if you ride somewhere dry - its nice to have 32 spokes for rebuilding purposes. ST's are ok but I hear bad things about the hubs and rebuilds are limited to mavic.

I would lean toward a custom build. For that price point you can get a really nice wheelset through speeddream ( or spend a touch more $ for the Chris King build : )

Do you have a good local wheelbuilder?

For prebuilt wheels I would go for the spinergy Xyclones, and the Bicycle Wheel Warehouse builds (the 717/dt240 is a great deal for $530) over the ST's or AC's.
