I'm thinking of a second wheelset for cross/road riding with a mtb (ybb). Does anyone know if a cxp 33 rim can handle disc or would that be asking for trouble?

Look for a Mavic Speedcity wheelset.

Virtually any rim can handle discs. The discs don't put any unusual stresses on the rims. It's disc specific rims that cannot handle rim brakes. CXP33's are great rims for cross. I weigh about 185lbs and have been on a set for three years now. They look and spin as good as new. If they were a bit wider, I'd seriously consider a set for 29er fat tire use.
