Hey guys,

I'm thinking of creating a new wheelset for trails and also lift access bike parks such as northstar. Ultimately, I want to put a 2.5 tire on it as well.

I have narrowed it down to Mavic 823 or the Syncros DS28 rims. What would you recommend?

I was in the same boat at the beginning of this season. I opted for the Syncros with a stan's strip to run tubeless.

I like the rims but really should've gone with the 823s. With the wider tires you get a better profile and setting up tubeless is easier and more reliable.

Get the 823s without question.

i think the difference is around 20grams or so correct? Not a big deal.
I went through this a few months ago for a more heavy duty trail wheelset, and went with the DS28's.

The DS28's are 550g, and I thought the 823's were 670 grams or so with the nipple cups? I might be remembering that wrong though.

It's a LOT more than that. 823's are over 700g, DS28's are around 550. Not really an apples to apples comparison.

Thanks Larry. I just got your email.

So an apples to apples comparison would be the 823s vs DS32. Anyone got any feedback on the DS32?

From the looks of it, it seems like the 823s are the way to go.
