In the last few months I've landed a Maverick sc32 fork and a set of Chris King 29er wheels that I'm thinking of using for a 29 build in the spring. I'm riding a converted 69er single speed bike now with a rigid fork and thinking of trying the maverick on it. I understand the sc32 needs a conversion kit for 29er use, but with the 26inch frame, do I want to do the conversion? It seems like the ride height will be better without converting. Can anyone chime in on this?

The conversion kit are simply two 38mm long spacers that you install over the internal shafts. The spacers are essentially travel limiters so the 29" tire doesn't bottom out into the fork crown.

The axle to crown dimension does not change, just the amount of travel is limited, so the ride height you mention will not be affected, the kit will just protect you from the tire bottoming on the crown.

I have a SC32 w/29er kit on my 08 Trek 69er:

And have a DUC32 w/29er kit on my 07 RIP9:

The ride height will be affected on his bike by virtue of building a 96er, even though the A to C doesn't change. Sort of an effective ride height.

Good advice- I have had an SC and a DUC on my 29ers in the past- the spacers are pretty easy to install- I paid a shop $40 for the job though- obviously your travel is reduced when you add the spacers.

Is the conversion hard?

Thanks for the advice and photos. Have any of you done the conversion? Do you need special tools?
