i did my normal loop in the headlands today, extended it by doing a bit of exploring on the way to tennessee beach and then riding back and forth across the golden gate bridge. this ride isn't difficult (although i have to push it to climb out of the stables on old springs trail) but the scenery's great on a day like today and there's a bunch of steady climbing on my loop. tons of people there, both hiking and biking, more than i've ever seen in the headlands. total about 22 miles including the bridge ride. it's just a fun place to ride and to take in the scenery. also good wildlife viewing today, first time i've run across a coyote and a bobcat on the same day. some pix attached, best i could do of the animals....

1. view towards the pacific
2. egret hanging out
3. wiley coyote..he outran me on the trail, closest i could get
4. bobcat from about 75 yards....he was very patiently stalking something...not me!!!
5. from the bridge...

like a wild safari, that is a big coyote in the third picture. What trails do you ride out in Tenn. valley? Up and over Bobcat, down Marincello and so on?
agreed, that was a big coyote. thought for a second it was a wolf, but i don't think they are around these parts. must just be a good hunting season for them!!!

here's my loop: park by the gg bridge, climb up the road to coastal and take it down to the valley, cross the road and take rodeo valley to bobcat and climb up bobcat to marincinello. down marincinello to the stables. i take the road and trail all the way to the beach (nice and calm today, some days i get sandblasted and just turn right around). today i took haypress just to see what was over there. pretty but not worth it, except that's where the egret and coyote were hanging out. from the beach i climb back to the stables, then up old springs (hardest part of the ride) and descend on miwok. across the road and then back up coastal. today i also went across the bridge and back.

i know most people climb miwok and descend old springs but i like to climb the latter...

Good stuff! Love that area as well. The last pic to your right is Kirby Cove - if you haven't explored that area I highly suggested it. Nothing technical, in fact it's just a fire road leading to the beach, but the views there are undescribable.... You'll probably have a few campers, but mostly you'll have it all to yourself.

I was out there yesterday as well, started at dusk and finished up with lights. I did the marincello/miwok/bobcat/old springs loop, and then a shortened marincello/old springs loop. There were nice views of Marin and SF city lights. Didn't see much wildlife, except for a couple of rabbits...
