I have the opportunity to buy a nice looking Manitou 1 but know next to nothing about these things. How much travel should one that's in good condition have? I loaded this one with my 175 pounds (pressing directly down with my body weight) and got about 14 mm of travel, judging from the telltale ring on the stanchion. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!

3.75" of elastomer was in theory supposed to compress up to 50%, but in practice you were lucky to get 40%.
Urethane elastomers were known in 1991 to have fatigue issues and limited lifespans though, so expecting old forks to still get original full travel is sorta a fantasy.
