Yep, 981 is a clamp on style. You want the E-type and if you're getting the new DynaSys version make sure your chainring's are compatible (42t max ring size).

If you need a 9 speed triple XTR FD, use the model number FD-M970-E
If you need a 10 speed triple XTR FD, use the model number FD-M80-E
If you need a 10 speed double XTR FD (our frames only work with the 38T or 40T options), use the model number FD-M985-E2

the FD is available without the E-Type plate, if you buy the FD with the plate, please remove it, and use the FD screws provided with our frames.

it does, i got hung up on "direct mount." some retailers dont understand that the backplate can be removed thus making it a "low direct mount."
