I am upgrading my gary Fisher Tarpon's crankset to a Shimano M510 crankset with the splined connection. I will also need to replace my bottom bracket because the one I have now is a square-taper one. My question is this: does the M510 crankset attach to an Octalink v1 or v2 bottom bracket? If not one of these, then what do I have to look for? I just want to avoid buying the wrong piece for the bike... Thanks for any help!

It is a v2 Octalink (XT/LX compatible splines, not XTR) and it works with 113 & 118mm bottom brackets (not the 121 and 126 like the M572 LX). This means you have your choice of bottom bracket from the Deore level ES30 all the way up the the XT level ES70, as long as it is in the 113 or 118mm length.
