M2: part 2

I guess this '91 M2 Stumpjumper would be the 1st MTB I lusted for . My 1st bike was a '88 Rockhopper, mostly as a pit bike as I was still motorcycle racing, cross country and enduros. By '91 the motorcycle racing had ended abruptly but I was ready for something new. My LBS was a Specialized dealer and had the new M2 Stumpys. Made in the US, trick M2 composite material, I was hooked. This was a new direction for Specialized and within a few years all their high end bikes were made from the M2 tubing. The Purple Haze was $1400, had DX components and the silver Team Stumpy had Suntour XC Pro at $2050. My shop was willing to swap out the DX components for XC Pro but I had to wait a couple more years before I got my 1st M2, a '93. I've had many since then and they just got better and better.

I've had this frame/fork for awhile and built it up with XT M730 but was not totally happy. Its a rider and the fit wasn't perfect but the bike handled nicely. Last year I acquired a too large Team Stumpy with complete Suntour Grease Guard XC Pro kit. A few snowy days later and I have the bike I lusted after. 7 speed XC Pro drive train, XC Pro Grease Guard bottom bracket / headset/ hubs with Specialized BXL 21 rims, Wheelsmith DB spokes, control tech alum seatpost, Salsa roller stem, Concor saddle, Specialized Team handlebar and in keeping with the original team specs, Dia Comp 986 brakes w/ Dia Comp SS5 MKII levers A NOS set of Smoke / Dart tires and its ready to get dirty. :cornut: FYI: The '91 M2's were the only ones to have riveted on cable guides
