It will take a bit of time to get used to being stretched out a little more , I would give it a chance especially if your position over the cranks is a good one . My two cents .

so I switched my stem from 50 mm to 70 mm to help with climbs.

after 1 hour on the bike, I am getting lower back pain.

I think I should move my seat forward, what do you think?
Well your back is stretching out a little bit more than you are used to....

So I would let it stretch for at least a week maybe two...More range of motion is usually a good thing...maybe even do some stretching off the bike to help things along.

On the other hand if it gets much worse than you should take some action, that could certainly be moving the seat forward...but if the seat is in an ideal place for pedalling maybe you can look at rolling the handlebars (riser type, remember to reset controls).

Maybe add a bit of height to the stem spacers if you have room.

Maybe just rethink you body position a little, concentrate on a straight back....Imagine a helicopter pulling you foward and up from the top of your head.

This is my second week on the new stem. First was killer, this week, not so much but it was there.

Thanks guys, will give it a shot for a few more rides before I do any adjustments.

Core conditioning also has a bearing on this , if you lack it , it is well worth improving it . Good luck .
