I was responding to another thread justifying the cost of SRAM xx1 cassettes and started wondering what worn out / outdated parts some people keep in their workshop because they are so nice to look at that they can't justify throwing them in the bin.

I have a worn out 11sp xx1 cassette that the machining from a single piece of material is such art that is has a permanent place in my work area.

Also a set of magura gustavs - actually just the floating caliper and the jewelry piece of an adapter that it floats on.

Chris King headset that's still active on the pub crawl bike that may eventually go on the wall once the rest of the bike dies.

Piece of a Thomson seatpost that was cutoff for shortening - but the inner machined walls is oh so nice to see.

I wished I had kept my original Knolly V-tach for the wall - but it was still rideable - just wasn't my type of bike anymore.

I have a small collection that fits this category. Prized piece is a Halson 2: inverted with canti posts, rasta color theme.

It would be on a bike but has a very short 1” threaded steerer. There is a 8 or 10 (can’t remember) hex opening at the bottom of the steerer, but I haven’t successfully removed it yet, an impact wrench might do it. But there is no point unless I have plans to have a new one machined. I might hit up Prosise in Lyons if i decode to follow through with it.

After posting the picture I noticed a Salsa brake booster in the background. Not as fancy but another classic piece of kit.

Until a recent move I had one of these hanging from a nail above one of my workbenches. Even peeled the 42t cog off and binned it so that i was looking directly into the guts of the machined cluster.

Great stuff so far, guys. Would love to see more.

My contributions ...

I have my old K2 3000 frame/fork, also, but not enough room to mount/display. Saving that and several other frames (nothing special, but special to me) for one day when I get a new garage.

On occasion I snoop ads for "lovely" stuff. Would kill for Grafton, Kooka and CBR cranks, SuperV, DeltaV and Ravens, my old Mountain Cycles San Andreas and Giant NRS ... The UNIQUE stuff. Just to hang up and stare and remember "the good ol' days".

Nice repurposing of the frame. I might use that idea if/ when i break an old hardtail. I used to work in a shop that had a stool fashioned out of a rear triangle (front end chopped off) and a big saddle.
