After a ride the other day I noticed a tick while pedaling towards the end of my ride, figured maybe I got some junk in my crank. Took the crank apart and BB and found that everything was clean and well greased. Really started looking at my bike and finally found that the real derailler was loose (Shimano XTR). The (mounting bolt?) had loosened from the frame which was causing the derailler to rock. Tightened it back up and everything is fine. My question is has anyone ever used loctite to keep this from happening? If it had come completely off there would have been some serious damage. Thanks!

can't say that I've ever had a rear der. come loose. With something like a XTR which has an aluminum(ti?) bolt, I always just use anti-sieze and torque it down to spec (or just pretty hard with hex wrench most of the time)

I agree with logbiter. Is your D-Hanger bent at all? I've never hear of a rear der loosening up either, but the hanger is so soft that went they bend the threads get sloppy. Just a thought, but no I would not use loc-tite. I throw a little poly lube on there, tighten it to spec, and check it after a ride or two.
