Looking for a 2.3 or bigger!

OK, so I'm pretty new to the 9'er world. I like the way the MotoRaptor 2.1 handles on the steep, loose and tight stuff, but I would love a wider tire up front. Anyone got any 411 about any 2.3 tires or greater for the 29'ers????

Search for Exiwolf :D
wsup Ruttt! Where's yo bike?

I can tell you this much... the WTB Exiwolf 2.3 is no bigger than the Nano 2.1. It's a great tire but it's heavy and it ain't no 2.3.

Everbody's waiting for the wtb weirwolf lt 2.55. The tire is huge and the knobs are short. it wont be any good for slocal though since it breaks out easy in loose stuff.

Oh nice....you have Cathy call me on this, but not you.
Nice.

Sorry Padre.... I didn't like your answers...I want more! :)
Francis... Glad to see you are feeling better. I wish you the best. Maybe you should relax in Mexico with us this coming weekend!!! hint hint
Slocaus.... sorry but the link you posted goes no where! Anyway it looks like I'll be waiting for something big to appear in the near future.
Sorry. I forgot that links to MTBR searches don't work. :madman:

As the edited post above now states, search for exiwolf - you will find it is the biggest volume 29er tire for now. :(
The biggest volume knobby tire in 29" is in fact the Bontrager XR, per Shiggy's specs. Way way larger is my favorite commuting tire, the Big Apple 2.35 slick. Real men make the latter into a huge knobby frankentire style, other whine that nothing is here. I'm in the middle, never finished the project.

Don't forget that Panaracer is promising a Rampage(?) 2.3" tire with good volume, and tubeless-approived. Kenda is telling to be investing in machines to produce larger 29" tires.

I remember you saying you weren't going for that 29er stuff. And if you don't know who this is, look closely at my user name, they are initials for something.
I figured it was only a matter of time, the guys at the Path would get you to try it, and now that Cathy has one. I will be trying one out soon, a friend over here just got a Dean frame built up. He said I can only ride it if I have some money saved up, because I will want one.
Rutface-

Here's my two sense...

Head over to the Path and pick up a pair of WTB 2.3 Exiwolfs. Tani should have them in stock.

Then...head over to Switchback and pick up a pair of Bontrager XR's. They're slightly larger in volume than the Exi...but they're a tad thinner. They might be the trick for ya though.

That should keep you busy until the new, wider stuff becomes available.

Bottom line...you need to rid yourself of the Motos.....they stink for our terrain.

another vote for the exis here. the motos were nice, the kendas I used to run sucked (as the front tire- still like the rear).

looking for something that won't throw you around? :D

Gary? Could it be you??? Sweet! When are you heading out again?
Yeah, lot's of the cool guys have them so I jumped on the wagon train.

Donkey- I hear what you are saying but I do question one part of your reply. You mention "...our terrain...". I want this tire for the steep stuff. I want a 2.3 to a 2.5. I want it big. I want it round. Wow, I'm starting to sound like LL Cool J. When it's time to ride the xc stuff I'll be staying on the little guys. I like looking down and seeing a big fat tire down there for the Rut Rides. (Probably not a quote from LL Cool J.) The Path has the 2.3's on order again. They keep running out.

Actually....I said "for our terrain":)

And yes...the Motos suck for our terrain...all of it...Everything south of Fresno!

The Exi and XR are the biggest tires available at present. They'll have to work for now:)

I think you're thinking of Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Yeah, I finally caught that too. I had to do an edit. I rode Joplin twice last week. Once on the Exi's and once on the Moto's. I enjoyed the Moto's quite a bit more. The Exi's (for me) we very unstable on the switchbacks, in the fallen leaves and on the loose rock gardens. That of course is just my two cents. :)
You got it right. We might be down your way in August, but I hear you might be in Alaska. Don't know if you heard, but I broke some ribs a month ago (non bike related), and just getting back on the dirt this past week. Rigid SS is not the best for sore ribs though.
There are more important issues here....

Hey,

The heck with tires.... find us a ping pong table!!!!

It's too late in the year now for the ping pong table. Joplin covered Salad Toppin's (Cathy) with flies last weekend. I think we will be staying away from the Santa Ana'a for a bit.

BHC-I didn't hear about the ribs. That sucks. Sorry to hear it. Heal fast and heal strong.
