OK, I'm going to put some cash down before Xmas. Have really narrowed the search down to two rides. 09 Gary Fisher Xcal and Cannondale 2 niner. Mainly because I know someone who deals Cdale and I can test ride both, as opposed to Vassago or builds like that. The Cannondale has some "cheeper" parts (Deore front der. vs. Sram x9) and I think is a bit more expensive (baring any deals I may get) The Lefty intrigues me a bit. If they were the same price which is the better value in your opinion. I don;t have much experience w/ Cannondale's. Please humor me, I am XXXtremely bored at work

I agree...these two bikes have substantially different geometries.

Also, I don't think that a down-graded front mech is reason alone to question a bike. That's one spot where very little performance can be gained. I'd compare the major components like wheels/hubs, forks, cranks/BB, shifters, and brakes as these are the places that will cost the most to upgrade later should you decide to do so.
