What are the pros and cons of having a long top tube with a short stem vs a shorter top tube with a long stem?

Judging from the geometry of the Karate Monkey, I would go with either an 18" frame and 120mm stem, or a 20" frame with a 105mm stem. The 18" will be pretty close in terms of toe overlap, but the 20" has very little standover clearance (my 60cm Crosscheck is only 1/2" taller!).

My guess is that the shorter top tube would be more prone to endos but a little quicker handling. So the trade off would be in stability vs quickness.

What do you guys think?

i think the longer TT and shorter stem will have quicker steering handling because the radius of the turning is less. So for a given distance of arm movement the shorter wheel of the bike with the shorter stem will move more. The handling is quicker but rocks and obstacles will also effect you more, so it's not quite as stable.
