former pro on a budget who rides a lot of miles. This guy is full BikesDirect convert now and owns a bunch of bikes from them. He is of the opinion that $$ bikes are overrated. Unless you are in shape and race competitively, he doesn't see why most should spend thousands to shave 10lbs of your bike.

cliff notes: crankset cracked in use and was replaced with $50 alivio crankset.. 2 years of use out on stock wheels much better than expected with one broken spoke.

Good read/view bob13 - May I suggest putting it in the "Beginner's" section? It will probably help new riders not to stress so much about their budget or OMG not a cheapo DB bike :))

Thanks as always for having interesting and helpful threads, especially for those of us learning the sport.
