Long and light 27.2 seatpost?

2095 Views 21 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  bike_freak
Alright, so i was happy with my Carbon composite post until i found out it was too short for proper leg extension. So currently i'm running one of those Kalloy seatposts at over 300grams.

It needs to be 390-410mm in length, a straight post (no seatback or very little of it), not stupid expensive and strong enough to be dependable even when run at a long length.

So any reccomendations BESIDES the thompson 27.2/410mm? Looking for something lighter if possible.

Thanks for any help, and if this has been asked before, just guide me in that direction:)

And if it matters, it's for a NRS composite Small, And i weigh under 60kg, but not the easiest on parts (bent Ti rails, flat spotted my DT rims...).

Extralite The Post UL2 XL

27.2 x 400mm 175-177g
My recommendation is....

The new MaxM carbon seatpost. My 27.2 x 400 mm has a claimed weight of 175 grams and a digital scale verified weight of 180 grams. I hear these posts are hard to find...

My hardtail has a Thomson 27.2 x 410 and it is the standard as far as strength and durability is concerned. The MaxM carbon post has been very nice however it is more flexy then the Thomson.

Hope this helps.

I use Maxm bars and do like thier stuff, but sadly their stuff is no longer in production:( I know i could pick it up from chainreactioncycles or something..

Dirtboy, i'll look into that post, thanks:)
Ti

I'd go Ti for that long of a seatpost. My litespeed 27.2 x 415mm weighs 217g. I calculated that if I trimmed it to 350mm it would weigh less than a new EC90. The Ti has bit of flex which I don't notice the movement of, but do notice the forgiveness compared to the Thomson on my training bike.

I think Cambria sells some Ti seatposts.

you are welcom. as always i'm your expert;)

shown below the KCNC-seatpost 27,2/350.
the clamp design now looks completely different than their 1st version which was a VERY BAD design and didn't clamp the saddle enough. pictures below are from the 2nd generation. the clamp looks almost identical to the new Ultimate design. but the new Ultimate post is still 26g lighter...

I want on of those new kcnc posts but I can´t find any in 27.2 from ebay so little help please!
I would think those new KCNC posts would hurt Extralite sales no?
KCNC Posts

Does anybody have time/experience on one of these seatposts? I'd like to get the New Ultimate, but a little too $$$$, so I'm considering getting the KCNC. Seems to be a good value for the dollar, but I feel a little unsure at the moment just how reliable/sturdy this post would be for technical XC riding (no jumping or hucking). Any feedback would be extremely appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
Website?

Anyone have the link for the KCNC website? Did a Yahoo search and couldn't find anything!

Thanks!

Anybody have saddle time yet on this post? I'm a 190 lbs. with gear and ride techy XC but don't do too many jumps. The $$$/weight ratio seems great but not if you endanger your nads.
If your'e in a hurry you should consider the USE Alien post. Lays around 200g i think, 410mm length, and best of all, cost nearly next to nothing.

I just bought one of these. It appears very nicely made and the adjustments are very easy, but the weight was 236gr for a 27.2 x 400mm, so it is a little heavier than advertised
