Hey all,

Just wanted to post this on the Lynskey forum before a purchase. I'm having a hard time deciding between a Live Wire 29 or a Pro 29 and would like to get some input. Currently riding a 2012 Jamis Dragon 650b steel hardtail in a small. This bike has been very good for me and at the time it was considered to have pretty progressive geometry with the 68 degree head angle mated to a 120mm fork. The following is a little bit about me and my riding style:

I'm 5ft 6in with an inseam just under 30 inches. I weigh 125lb suited up. My riding is primarily cross country style. I typically ride from my house on the road for about 7 miles to my local trailhead. My trails are mostly singletrack, primarily blue and green type trails, but there are rocky sections. There are some black diamond type of trails in my trail system, which I do on rare occasions. Flowy trails are my definite preference. Typically about 25 miles total for each ride and about 2 - 2 1/2 hours of ride time. I do about 5 cross country races a year so I do like a light responsive ride. My bike handling skills are about average for a sport class racer.

Comfort is a big requirement for me, as I am getting older and don't like to get beat up. On paper the Pro seems to fit my needs, but reviews I've read on this bike say that it tends to be harsh and somewhat twitchy to ride- more of a short distance true racer. What does everyone think? Live Wire as a great all arounder which would still be capable on race day or Pro for the responsive ride? Also, I'm thinking of a small for either ride. Thanks in advance for any input!

I ended up ordering a Pro29 because it was designed for a 120 - 130mm front fork. The longest i want to go, riding the same way as you do- was 120mm. I think the rest really depends upon which wheelset you choose.

I have owned my 2018 Pro 29 since new of April 2018. Have about 3,000 miles under her with a 2018 Fox Sc 32. I have been unable to duplicate and harsh ride or any unstable traits. It just goes from the first pedal pressure. I cannot speak of any other bike I have not ridden. But I have ridden it 60 miles over some rocky stuff but mostly higher speed stuff. Yep I was tired but still did other stuff that day. So for a hard tail, I find it comfortable but stout when it needs to be. Crashed it once. Left a few scratches but polished them right out. So many variables like tires, tire pressure, shock settings etc so your results may vary. I would build the 29 all over again. It has Di2 with syncro shift and I am done with cable pulls. Oh, and no the bike is not touching the 911 but is touching the vert.
