Does anyone know a source for good quality, and not insanely heavy 20" tires? For some reason 20" kid literally weigh the same of an equivalent 29" tire. I'd love to upgrader her tires to some 2.2-2.4", but I can't find anything that isn't just absurdly heavy.

Same goes for rims, I thought I'd rebuild her wheels with wider rims, but everything available seems to be built to withstand casing a jump from low earth orbit.

Past threads have some good info:

Here's a few options to start out for wider stuff:

Tires:
Brood Maxtion 20x2.20" - 440g / $40:
https://spawncycles.com/brood-maxtion-22

Kenda Slant Six 20x2.6" - 570g (stock on our Cannondale Cujo weighed closer to 600g)

CST Fringe 20x2.8" - 560g / $25:
https://www.csttires.com/us/tire/fringe-c1918/

Rims:
Alienation:
Rims – Alienation Bicycle Components

TCS Mischief (23mm, 28H / 36H, disc only) - 290g
TCS Malice (23mm, 28H / 36H) - 330g
TCS Felon (32mm, 36H) - 418g
TCS Vandal (37mm, 36H) - 430g

Spawn
https://spawncycles.com/components
Brood TR27 (27mm, 28H / 32H) - 390g, $45

Cujo 20 has 29mm rims from Shining Rims that don't show up in their normal catalog, but based on the specced hubs and my estimates for spoke weight, I'm guessing they're about 370g

Trailcraft also sells 20" wheelsets based on Stan's Crest MK3 rims

Salsa Timberjack 20 is specced with WTB i35 rims, but I can't find any details on them from the WTB site.

lighter, wider 20" tires and rims?

Any suggestions for slick tires or low knob?

Trek makes an XR1, but they weigh 645g.

Doing a search within this forum is probably more effective than searching Google itself.

Aside from that, most of what I've come across has been just digging into the specs on various retailers, component company sites, & AliExpress.

danscomp.com is nice, since they have an option to sort listings by weight that sort of works (not all components have weights listed).

Looking more closely at the Alienation site, their new TCS race tires look pretty nice if you want to go super light -- the TCS R1 (20x1.6) is only 255g! Set that up tubeless on a TCS Mischief rim with Circus Monkey hubs and you'd be set to fly on pavement.

Funny, I've always found the search function in these forums to be completely useless. Lots of results, none of them relevant. Just search for "light weight 20" tires" and not a single result had anything to do with kids bikes. Results included : "Show me your 29er!" and "Vegetarian and Vegan Passion".

Really, I think the search function is the greatest achilles heel to the forums.

Are you doing a search across all of MTBR forums from the search bar in the navigation:
search all.PNG

Or are you using the "Search Forum" drop-down within the "Families and Ridings with Kids" forum:
search forum.PNG

I get significantly more relevant results searching just this forum, even more so if I do an advanced search and just search for "20 tires" limiting the scope to thread titles and not full posts.
