I am a super lightweight rider at 125lbs and have always felt like compression damping is too much. I'm always running my high speed and low speed compression all the way open. A friend suggested trying a lighter weight oil like 2.5-3.0wt. Seems like the 2.5wt oil might be a cheaper, less permanent way to lighten the compression but I don't know all the pros and cons. Just trying to see what others thoughts are and the differences between the two.

If you had a Manitou fork with an ABS damper you could change the shim stack and the oil weight to fit your preferred performance range. Shims of different diameters and thickness partially block the passage of oil through holes in a valve. The shims would make a bigger impact than the weight of the oil.
