Light for $100

728 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Wilderness_Dave
Whats the best handlebar light for $100/under that i can run by itself?

I might be set with a helmet lamp, but was told i should get a back up/ 2nd light. The helmet lamp isn't HID. I'm doing pats peak 24 hr race solo this weekend.

I'm just looking for the brightest light i can get on a handlebar and for only $100

Any links or advice would help.

Thanks,
David

The problem is that your backup/2nd will only last for an hour or two, so if you're going solo that won't do you much good. I guess it would get you back to camp for repairs, but then you have to carry the thing. I have carried an LED headlap for a backup, or use it while making repairs to save batteries. Not bright enough to ride anything tricky or quick, though.
how about a $150 light

Any light $100 -150 going to be any good. I'm not going to go to fast, just steady pace.

So all these lights under $150 are not bright enough by themselves. Guess i'll have to stick with my buddy with the HID light.

It's not that they aren't bright enough. I have Vistalight Code 15 with the nightstick batteries, which was under $100 on sale. The 10w light by itself is fine. Yeah, could be brighter, but I'd say my pace is probably something like 90% of daytime. Only lasts for an hour and half, though. So, you would need many batteries to get through night in a solo 24. You can't get by with only 2 because they take 8 hours to charge.
Just got back from LBS, they sold me a NiteRider Classic Plus and took $100 off the price to get me in my price range. That's one less thing to worry about. I should be all set with the helmet and bar light.

It's funny while i was at the shop my teammates mother called asking them about a $150 light, too. They sold them a niterider helmet light. Nothing like waiting to the last moment to get lights 2 days before the race.

Thanks for the info,
David
