Here's what I have so far:

A 1996 16" Cr-Mo Mongoose frame (it was my first mtb and has sentimental value); not sure of the weight yet, maybe 5lbs???

Ritchey 1" threadless stem~187.1g
Tange 1" threadless Cr-Mo fork~722.9g
Ritchey WCS crank~606.7g
Spinergy Spox wheelset~1613.1
Kenda Kwest tires~1207.7 (heavy, other semi-slick options?)

I'm building the bike on the cheap, so It's going to take a while to find everything. Looking for a cheap Ritchey WCS flatbar and WCS 26.8 seatpost. Also, I'd like a WCS 1" stem, but have not seen one yet. I'm still not sure if I want to go SRAM or Shimano for drivetrain yet. I really like the SRAM x.9 setup on my NRS; but am not sure yet.

Anyone with a 'light' Cr-Mo bike give me some suggestions, or pics. Thanks.

problem solvers (and many others) make a 1 1/8 --> 1 inch shim for stems, much easier than finding a 1" stem.

dude, for a commuter bike (unless you commute up and down big hills) I totally suggest 1x9. Saves weight and simplicity.

How do you set 1x9 up? Just choose the appropriate cog and remove the others and the front derraileur?
