the guide r brakes on my bike have a lever reach adjust function. see below

you turn the knob and set your lever reach. pretty simple

brake operation theory:

these are open system brakes.

question:
after a period of time, i need to adjust the setpoint as my pads wear. there is a reservoir on the lever body. the pistons should just adjust the fluid into the caliper and make up the difference. no reach adjust changes required.

the only way this should require adjustment is if the bladder becomes low and the piston is no longer retracting. the system has now become a closed system.

it would seem dumb to have a bladder reservoir that was too small.

am i missing something here? thoughts???

fwiw im pretty good with servicing my bike. so lets assume im doing things properly.

Your caliper rollback only functions as well as the seals are lubricated. If you don't clean and "exercise" the slave pistons regularly the theory falls apart.
