Eighty Aid in Germany offers a tuning for Lefty dampers they call "Fumic Option". It makes the Lefty less hard when locked out.

Does anyone have an idea what's modified in the shock?

It’s called check valve tuning.
Cannondale actually sells a kit for this.
With it, you can dial in at how big of a hit you want the fork to become active when locked.
The lockout is more of a platform not full lockout. Meaning it becomes very stiff, only opens on a bigger hit to protect the shock’s internals.
This “blow off” can be customized with check valve tuning.

I see, that's part no KH083, thanks! How is this installed? Do you know if the kit comes with instructions? How does this relate to the Lockout Washer Kit - KH084?

Mmmm, the above kit is for low speed compression, it will have no impact on lockout blow off force.

Unless the OP has good working knowledge, it's not a simple job.

88+, good (and bloody expensive) as their work may be, LOVES marketing BS. Fumic Option, WTF??

To soften or firm lock blowoff force, is a simple matter of adding or removing tuning shims from the stack. Not doable without a complete damper tear down, but if they're charging extra it had best be really minimal since the parts to make it firmer, have to be added, while the parts to make it softer, get removed (read, no new parts required and they are already there touching all thiose parts anyway during a normal service)....

I have a PBR damper that Eighty Aid deemed "unserviceable" and that has the "Fumic Option". I'll probably buy a new damper (not from them) and disassemble the "unserviceable" one. I haven't worked on any Cannondale dampers from the last 15 years, so Im curious to see how they evolved and if I can get it back together anyway.

As per cannondale:

“Cannondale Lefty PBR + XLR Lockout Tuning Kit - KH083
Includes several different check valves for tuning lockout adjustability on XLR and PBR Leftys”.

Worked for my 2012 PBR from almost solid lockout, to a more open one.

Did you take pictures of the installation by chance?
I probably will have time soon to disassemble my "unserviceable" damper :)

No, I didn’t. Sorry. This was a few years back.
I had to modify an open end wrench with an angle grinder flap disc to make it thinner since you need to remove the shim stack to get to it.
I remember using the softest spring and the corresponding part with the largest orifice which resulted in a very soft lockout blow off.
You also need a bullet tool, soft jaws and other proprietary parts.
All it takes is a single slip with a tool, and your cartridge is toast.
Just send it out to someone.
Why is your cartridge unserviceable?
